The
Plicator™ Procedure
A
new, non-surgical endoscopic
treatment has recently been developed to correct the mechanical
defect that causes GERD. No incisions are required as the
procedure is performed endoscopically and under conscious
sedation.
Patients
are treated on an outpatient basis and able to return to normal
activities the following day. In early clinical studies, the
majority of patients treated with the Plicator experienced
a reduction in symptoms and medications associated with GERD.
Step
1:
The specially designed Plicator enters the esophagus and is
positioned at the junction of the stomach and esophagus.
Step
2: Plicator arms are opened and tissue is
grasped near the LES.
Step
3:
Plicator arms are closed, deploying a stitch to secure the
tissue fold or plication.
Step
4:
The final plication restructures the tissues near the LES,
restoring the normal anti-reflux barrier.
